Still Can’t Shake It
Bad night last night. I had to get up because of all my persistent coughing; I didn’t want to keep everyone else from sleeping. Each cough was accompanied with a vein-bursting shoot of pain in my brain, and my ribs feel like they’ve been tossed in a Chinaman’s wok. So I made a cup of tea, grabbed my notebook and sat in the lounge.
I ended up watching a film on Film 4. My Name Is Joe; a Glasgow film from the 80’s about an ex-alcoholic amateur football coach and the problems that arise when he gets together with a social worker. It was superbly written and there was great acting from some famous names in the early phase of their careers. I was gripped for two hours, and never even noticed if I was coughing or not.
Today, the cough still has not shifted, and to be honest it’s starting to really get on my nerves. I took a hot bath in the hope of loosening my chest and stuffed up head and by later in the afternoon it seemed to have worked a bit, though it’s still damn sore on my head and chest.
I went for a short walk in the cold air and bought some fresh orange juice, both of which also seemed to help. I wish I knew what brought this on. I’d better be ok for Saturday – it’s the final day of the Six Nations Rugby tournament – any of three teams can win it – and I’m going to see Stiff Little Fingers with my sister. So I want, nae, need to be on top form.
I’m about half-way through Slick now – but have hit a tricky patch. A tricky patch where the decisions can’t wait until after, they need to be made now and it’s getting complicated. Good fun though!

Time to get something from the doctor. You don’t want it to take up a more permanent residence in your lungs. It sounds like early bronchitis, and you don’t want it to develop into pneumonia.
