Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Beginning to feel better. The cough was bad last night again, but not as bad as it has been on previous nights. It seems to be drying up now, and the phlegm slowly giving way. Maybe the vitamin C and three quarters of a bottle of Covonia I’ve consumed over the past couple of days are finally taking hold. Still stuffed a bit in the head mind you, but at least the burning sensation in my chest and the feeling that a brain haemorrhage is imminent have both now passed.
My poem, Scotland Neglected was published today in the St. Patrick’s Day issue of Circadian Poems. You can read it here.
Continued with my work on Slick. It’s funny how some passages seem to have struggled where others didn’t, depending how I was feeling at the time and what part of the story I was at. Got some major decisions to make.
Also have some major surgery to perform on it because I’ve noticed that now I am in the middle, there seems to be more tell than show. It kind of creeps in where it’s not wanted. Got to rip that out and turn it round.
Six Nations Rugby
Final Week Preview
Saturday 17th March, 2007
France v Scotland
Stade de France, Paris
Week 5 of the Six Nations Championship, and what a five weeks it has been as far as my team, Scotland, are concerned. It’s been a roller-coasting tournament, packed with highs, lows, joy and despair, and now on the eve of the final match, we find that the ultimate winners have yet to be decided. England won the Calcutta Cup, Ireland the Triple Crown, but not one nation will be able to claim the Grand Slam, such has been the ferociousness fought from all sides.
Scotland were beaten bravely against the English, embarrassingly against the Italians, and only just by the Irish. They won their only match against the Welsh in a year that saw them with three home games, which many will argue after last season, they squandered the chance of a six point advantage this time out. Had they done so, they might have been in with a chance.
As it stands, France, Ireland and England have each won three and lost one match, and going into the final week, all stand a chance of winning the Six Nations. France are at home to the Scots, on paper a sure fire home win. Ireland are away to Italy, the underdog’s rampant this season, and England are at Wales, normally a tough tie but after Wales’ showing this year, it surely has to be an English win.
With all this taken into account, it looks like coming down to points difference between the sides, and it’s conceivable that the winner of each game could put them ahead before the next game of the day is played. Which would also mean the pressure will be on the next team up.
Whatever happens it’s bound to be a superb day of rugby. From a Scotland perspective we need to show a good hand and hope that our will not to finish with only two points, is greater than the France’s will to beat us by as many points as possible to claim the trophy.
In short, Scottish pride must outweigh France’s determination to win yet another Six Nations Championship. And with it being St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, who knows what surprise could be n store for the Irish.
