Tummy Trouble

I felt a lot better on getting up this morning, although my stomach was still suffering the odd twang and unable to hold as much coffee as I would normally had preferred. My appetite was not as I would have considered normal, although I did force down some toast and some Italian blend before heading into work.

Other than yesterday’s minor mishap, I think I can consider myself clear of illness over the festive period for the first time in several years. I have always succumbed to some form of flu, throat or chest infection, but this year, despite coming close a couple of times, I’ve managed to stave it off. Mutli-vitamin pills have helped as have my hat and scarf, and I believe increasing my fruit and veg intake may have had something to do with it, also.

By lunchtime my stomach had worsened and my head felt like it was swelling up and down like a hot air balloon. I found myself at my desk swallowing hard repeatedly, then later in the toilet dry retching when the nausea got too much.

Not good.

I thought maybe the sickness feeling was partly down to hunger so I went out to buy some soup. The fresh air was instantly reviving, but soon after finishing the cup of Wild Mushroom, I started to worsen; stomach churning, nausea, light headedness. I decided it would be best to leave work as early as possible to get back to my bed, which meant 3:30pm could not come quick enough.

I got home and fell into bed. There I remained for the rest of the night. The only productive thing I got done was a quick check of my email on a toilet trip, and one third of AL Kennedy’s novel, Day.

It’s possible you have the gastric version of this virus everyone’s getting. I hope it goes soon and you start to feel better. But rest up until it does.

Feel better soon. And stay away from mushroom when you’re not feeling well — not the best choice.

Try getting as much ginger into your system as you can manage, and then, once you can keep food down, something with turmeric.
