I’ve ordered some new slippers. I came across some fabulous foot offerings called Homeys and was swept away, not only with the comfort they look like they have (like walking on shag pile) but also their designs—take a look for yourself! I ordered a pair of Crazy Feet; purple weave with innards like lambs wool. I can’t wait to get them.

This wasn’t an advert it was a genuine passionate post. I like slippers. I like being comfortable and if that means being comfortable in an old-fashioned, 1970s kind of way then so be it. I have good memories of the 70s—I was born then—and I always did like my old tartan baffies. These Homeys look just the job, which is good because I’ve not had a really god pair of slippers for a fair number of years now.

Long day in the office. I worked until 7pm on some technical investigation with one of the senior techies from another team. We’ve been working over the last few days and I’ve been learning a ton of stuff. It kind of knackers your brain when you walk out to go home though, as it makes it much harder to switch into the other side of your brain to do anything creative. I got home to find home-made Enchiladas on the go, which looked and smelled fantastic. Went down a treat, too.

I caught up on a few emails after dinner but I was so tired I struggled to manage to do much else. After watching a film the other night I had a few ideas for stories, which I jotted down on paper and will explore further a little later. They concern the interesting concept of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). Stirring and provoking—I like things that do that to me.

Today I will be continuing the juicy technical work in the day job; hopefully I’ll get away earlier than 7pm, though. Tonight I have a few options available to me: a possible gig for review; writer’s group meeting (I’ve not been in months); a movie. Tune in tomorrow…

Before dawn had even broken I had four articles edited and my fourth (Thursday) assignment for the dialogue workshop completed and submitted. By the time I left for work, I was on fire! Tired – exhausted actually – but on fire.

It was midnight last night before things drew to a close, and I was up at 5am to continue the work. I couldn’t even see on the screen far less contemplate what I was meant to be doing by the end. My brain just wasn’t up to functioning any longer after such a long day. But hey – I’m still enjoying it and I’m learning so much from the conference as well as from the experience of balancing so much work at once. Having taken it all on – the conference, the freelance work, and an unusually bust time at the day job – I’m proving more to myself than is perhaps obvious to me just now.

Another good thing today was my monthly pay day lunch with Julz, Linda, and Nick. This month we went to Tex Mex 2 on Thistle Street. A massive Chimmy Chunga (?spelling) was ordered and went down a treat, followed by a delicious portion of their Iced Brownie Pie. I abstained from alcohol in the knowledge I had an online chat at midnight with my tutor and fellow writers from the dialogue workshop; not one I wanted to miss.

I was calculating my NaNo plan today. Based on my usual 2,000 words per day, and allowing for no writing on the 1st and 2nd of November (Spain) and the 14th (Glasgow to see Paul Weller), I expect complete the 50,000 requirement on the 28th. I’m planning on sticking to my 2k goal, but there are certain days I’ll be able to do way more than that, such as the days Gail is away photographing a wedding or something. Barring any disasters like I had last year (though I still managed to complete it successfully) I reckon I’m going to be ok.

Check this out: It’s the Colin Galbraith Trophy!!

Ok so today’s work was pretty heavy going. Between 5am and 1am Saturday morning, I edited the 3rd assignment for the dialogue workshop, wrote the one for days 4,5 and 6, completed the third draft of the 2nd and 3rd draft of the second batch of TLB articles, did some work on a website transfer, and attended Devon’s chat at the Muse Conference.

It’s 1am here and the chat has just finished. Can’t do any more as my brain is going to crash, so I’m off to bed.
